Course Objectives
Students will:
demonstrate proper behavior while attending a theatrical performance
designate the areas of the stage using theatrical terms
illustrate the types of theatre spaces and denote the usage of each
list the steps in playwriting and explain the importance of each step
evaluate a performance for the performers practice' of proper stage presence
demonstrate the concepts of improvisation through performance and evaluation of performances
design and perform a scene using standard theatre techniques and practices
explain the contributions and significance of three eras (Greek, Medieval, Renaissance) of theatre history.
demonstrate body movement mastery
use the voice as a communication medium in a manner that is clear and understandable
explain the development of musical theatre as a unique genre of the theatre arts
Grading Policy
The grading of the course will consist of the cumulative points earned for various activities. These activities include:
writing an original play
performing a simple small cast scene
a written evaluation of a script noting all aspects an actor requires
performance of an improvisational activity
performance of a choreographed group presentation
performance of a reader's theatre presentation
performance of period (Greek, Medieval, Renaissance) scenes
group research projects
tests and quizzes
other activities as deemed necessary
